Jack and Rita G. Minker Professorship in Computer Science

Jack Minker (1927-2021) was professor emeritus and served as the Department of Computer Science’s founding chair at the University of Maryland from 1974 to 1979. Minker joined UMD in 1967 and was among the first members of the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies. He established this fund in 1992 to support a professor of computer science. This professorship honors the pioneering contributions of Rita G. Minker (1927-1988, his first wife) in the early development of computer science and Jack Minker for his research in artificial intelligence and his work in support of human rights for scientists.
