Named in honor of the University of Maryland’s founding year, the 1856 Society recognizes Maryland’s most generous benefactors and the foundation their philanthropy provides for our university. Supporters who make a lifetime commitment of $1 million or more, or a planned gift of $5 million or more, ensure that Maryland will continue its ascent as a preeminent public research institution for generations to come.
ELIGIBILITY
All gifts, regardless of fund or program, are counted toward lifetime contribution totals. Donors also may be recognized as a couple, with gifts credited jointly, if preferred.
